west yorkshire playhouse costume dept.

on tuesday, me and all the a-level textiles girls went on a trip to the costume department of our local theatre to try on costumes as research for our textiles project. it's amazing in there! they pretty much let you just walk in and try on some costumes, i loved it!

my project is based on the book / musical 'wicked' so i was looking for big ball gowns, victorian-style clothes, big elaborate dresses, and obviously, any wizard of oz things that i could get my hands on. there was actually a huge wizard of section in the back which i got really excited about.

so this is just going to be quite a picture-heavy post about the costume department and the outfits i tried on :-) hope you guys enjoy!

so the first thing i tried on was a wedding dress! i wandered around for maybe 20 minutes being a bit disheartened because i couldn't find anything that i thought would fit me, and i didn't want to put something on that swamped me and then feel shit about myself. the first 'small' thing i found was this wedding dress so i had to try it on but i ended up getting stuck in it and spending 10 minutes wrestling my way out haha, oops...

the most beautiful dress ever! i was so in love with this thing! i've actually written a whole post on it because i loved it that much, which'll be up soon. :-)

second favourite dress of the day! it was a tim-burton style ball gown. it was fully-boned and really heavy, and the train drove me mad haha, it was hell trying to walk around in that thing! i felt like helena bonham carter in sweeney todd in this. :-)

munchkinlander shoes! i was so in love with them but they were really battered and two sizes too big :-(

ruby slipper tap shoes! sparkly red tap shoes have actually been on my shopping list for years and years, since i saw 'wizard of oz' at the playhouse when i was about 12, so i was really excited to see these :-)

my friend tyla trying on this INSANE showgirl costume that the costume dept. guys called the "feathers" haha.

munchkinland heaven!

grab it by the testicle

i've been posting nearly every day this week because i've been so inspired to write and so happy that i haven't got stuff to do (since i just finished all my AS courses - see here). but i hate being inconsistent, and i know that if i blog every day this week then there'll be a several-weeks-long dry spell where i have nothing to blog about.

BUT i just had to share this with everyone. it's a poem called "grab it by the testicle" and it was written by hank green, who i am madly in love with (apparently i'm madly in love with everyone... but gosh he's so adorable). i started watching this video not realising it was a poem and then half way through, i was just like "OH GOD I HAVE FOUND THE GREATEST THING EVER," and then i did this for about twenty minutes:

gif found via google!

i love this so much. it's so perfect. i don't have any decent words right now. please watch it and join me in this speechlessness.

hank green is one half of vlogbrothers which is a youtube channel in which two brothers, hank green and john green, make amazing videos. you may know john green as he is the author of amazingly popular books such as looking for alaska and the fault in our stars (my post of tfios here). i keep trying to share vlogbrothers with my friends but they don't seem interested so i thought you guys might be a more welcoming audience. please, please, please visit their channel and watch some videos because i know for sure you will love them as much as i do. xx

i am in love

anybody who is similarly interested in tv shows about small businesses may know who i'm about to talk about. me and my family are addicted to shows like 'cake boss', 'hardcore pawn', and the most famous of them all, 'miami ink', but my new favourite is 'oddities'. i've known about this for ages but recently i've not been able to stop watching it. it's about a boutique in new york called 'obscura - antiques and oddities', and the most beautiful man in the whole world works there.

his name is ryan matthew cohn. he's a bone expert and skull fanatic so whenever anything skeletal turns up on this show, he's right there. smart, knowledgeable guys are so hot and when he reels off this confusing anatomical jargon, i'm just like, "wow." he wears suits a lot too, and i am a massive suit fetishist. anyone who dresses so nicely just to wander the streets of ny is my kinda man. he's so... historical and beautiful and i just wanted to share my new-found love with you all.

you can find ryan on twitter and tumblr, and you can also visit his website and his online boutique. x
